What to Buy Around Khao Yai: Producers, Markets and Where to Skip

By The Villa Team· 10 September 2026· 5 min read

Shopping in the hills is mostly about food: dairy, bread, chocolate, wine and whatever the morning market has. Below is what we could confirm is open and what it publishes about hours and prices — plus, at the end, an honest note about the craft studios that travel articles keep promising.

Producers you can buy from directly

  • Farm Chokchai / Umm Milk, Pak Chong — a working dairy that mills its own milk into ice cream, yoghurt, milk tablets and its famous curry puffs, fried fresh through the day. The farm's steakhouse is open daily 09:00–20:00 and the burger outlet 09:00–18:00; the souvenir shop's own hours are not published. About 70 km from the villa, roughly an hour by car.
  • Dairy Home, between Muak Lek and Pak Chong — an organic dairy and registered social enterprise with a farm shop selling its own pasteurised milk, set and Greek yoghurt, butter and bread. Plant and demonstration-farm visits are by appointment; no opening hours are published, so call 081-991-0271.
  • Green Me Organic Farm, Pak Chong — a certified organic farm whose shop sells what the farm grows: melons, squash, tomatoes. Closed Wednesdays.
  • The vineyard cellar doors — GranMonte has a shop and café where wines can be tasted and bought alongside homemade goods; PB Valley's shop sells fresh grapes, grape and passion-fruit juice, bakery and its wines.

Bakery, gelato and coffee with published hours

Toscana Valley in Pak Chong is a hotel, residence and golf estate rather than a shopping village, but its bakery and gelateria are open to visitors and — unusually for Khao Yai — publish their hours:

  • La Tosca bakery — daily 10:00–19:00; croissants, rustic breads, cakes and cookies, packed to take away. Walk in, no reservation.
  • Papa Mama Gelateria — daily 11:00–20:00, gelato made on site.
  • Coppia Caffè and bar — daily 10:00–23:00; Caffè Portofino Sun–Thu 10:00–21:00, Fri–Sat until 22:00.
  • Two outlets on the estate are shut: Caffè al Secondo is closed indefinitely and Sedere al Fresco is temporarily closed, per the estate's own listings.
  • The estate publishes no admission or parking charge either way, so don't assume free entry.

The visitor complexes on Thanarat Road

Three of the best-known stops are genuinely open, but none of them publishes hours or prices on a channel we can verify — and two have lost control of their old web addresses, so search results are unreliable.

  • Palio Khao Yai — an open-air Italian-styled shopping street with more than 120 shops, cafés, wine shops and souvenir stalls, per Thailand's tourism authority. Hours and any parking charge are unpublished; its official channel is the Palio Facebook page, not the old palio-khaoyai.com domain, which is now parked.
  • The Chocolate Factory Khao Yai — listed by the tourism authority as a shopping attraction, with handmade chocolate plus a café and restaurant. Its old website no longer resolves; use the brand's Facebook or Instagram.
  • Primo Piazza — an Italian-village complex with cafés and farm animals you can feed. An admission ticket is charged, usually exchangeable for animal feed, but the amount is not published anywhere official and third-party figures contradict each other, so check the price at the gate. Do not use the primopiazza.com address that its own page still lists: the domain now serves unrelated spam.
  • About 85 km from the villa to the Primo Piazza area, roughly 1 h 15 – 1 h 30 by car.

Markets on the Nakhon Nayok side

  • Ban Dong community morning market, Sarika — a daily food and produce market in front of Wat Ban Dong Wittayakarn School, published by the Sarika sub-district office as open 04:30–08:30. The post dates from early 2025, so treat it as an early-morning stop worth confirming locally.
  • Dong Lakhon floating market, Mueang Nakhon Nayok — a village market at a farming learning site near Wat Dong Lakhon; the government record lists free entry, car park, toilets and food stalls, but no trading days, and the widely repeated "weekends only" claim has no official source. Call the temple on 09-4495-6333 before making the trip.
  • Nakhon Nayok town itself is about 31 km from the villa, roughly half an hour by car — the practical stop for a supermarket run.

The honest part

Khao Yai shopping guides routinely promise hand-thrown ceramics, indigo textiles, artisan cheesemakers and weekend farmers' markets with fixed days. We went looking for those, in Thai and English, and could not verify a single ceramics or textile studio in Pak Chong, Wang Nam Khiao or Nakhon Nayok with its own website or official page — nor a cheesemaker, though the region's cheese does appear on GranMonte's tasting plates. Nor could we find a farmers' market that publishes its trading days. Rather than invent them, we have left them out. If you find one during your stay, tell us and we will verify it and add it.

Driving times are approximate, by car, outside peak traffic and with no stops; they come from OpenStreetMap-based routing, not from measured journeys. Add time for the queue at a national-park checkpoint.
